WINNERS
Lifeguard Systems (LGS) 2002 Scholarship
Lifeguard Systems Inc. Executives saw so many qualified applicants that
they decided to quadruple the 2002 LGS Scholarship and award one to each
of four women around the country.
AWARDED TO: LILLY FISHER, RENEE CHRISTINE GREVEN,
CHERYL JEANNERET AND
ELIZABETH RATLIFF
Lilly Fisher. Lily is a member of the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department and
the newly formed Dive Rescue Team. Lily wants to use the training to benefit
the community, and her team. “I know that if by chance I am ever in
a situation where my assistance could save or help another human being, I
would like to be prepared as much as possible”.
Renee Christine Greven, M.D. Renee is an emergency medicine resident physician
in New York City. Her interest is in Search and Recovery. Renee was allowed
to enter this world by the tragedy of September 11th. “One of the skills
I could have used was the ability to SCUBA dive. We were informed early on
that there was a train stuck in a flooded tunnel with possible survivors
and the only way to get to them was to dive.” Renee became a certified
diver and will pursue training in search and rescue confined space certification.
Cheryl Jeanneret. Cheryl has followed her heart as a probations officer,
private investigator, working with the disabled, a PADI dive instructor and
as a volunteer at the Oregon Aquarium ‘I am a hard worker who is determined
not only to work for the betterment of the Oceans but also to be a role model
to women of any age that you really can do what your heart desires’.
Elizabeth Ratliff. Elizabeth received her first scuba certification at 12.
Worked in her local dive shop during high school, became an Emergency Medical
Technician at 18. And became a volunteer firefighter at 19, graduated from
Stephen’s College at 22 with a BS in Biology and now is first female
diver on the Missouri State Patrol Dive Team and dive instructor.
Hillary Viders, Ph.D. 2002 Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to a qualified woman of any age, diver or non-diver,
who is enrolled in an accredited academic or research program in the field
of marine science and conservation.
AWARDED TO: MICHELLE STAUDINGER
Michelle is presently pursuing a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences at Stonybrook
University, Marine Sciences Research Center, Stonybrook, NY. Ms. Staudinger
intentions for pursuing a Ph.in marine sciences are to gain the necessary
background to become a fisheries scientist working to explore and understand
the direct and indirect consequences that harvest, bicatch, and habitat destruction
are having on marine life and help develop sustainable fisheries management
plans.
Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF, Inc.) 2002 Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to a deserving woman diver of any age and background
who wishes to begin or further her dive education.
Awarded to: Suzanne Rose of Natick, MA
Suzanne, an editor and writer in the non profit world, knew she wanted
to become an instructor in her divemaster course. Ms. Rose loves to working
with students and wants to share her love of scuba diving, she wants to
become a role model to other new women divers. Suzanne plans on attending
an Instructor Course this year in California. |
