ABOUT HUGH FLETCHER

Although earthbound to a wheelchair, Hugh Fletcher reached many goals not attained by most people. An avid sailor, scuba diver and sportsman, in the company of friends and family he explored corners of the globe both far and near. Though carried on the shoulders of giants, he would have stood tall in our midst nonetheless. He was a great friend to many and an inspiration to all. Hugh lost his battle in May, 2001, and his friends have decided to tribute him with these two scholarships.

Endowed by the friends of outstanding diver and volunteer Hugh Fletcher who triumphed over Muscular Dystrophy, made great strides in diving and was a role model for disabled divers.

The Hugh Fletcher Memorial Scholarship: For odd numbered years (2003, '05, '07 etc.) $500 awarded to any dive master, assistant instructor, or instructor who wishes to pursue education to teach or assist the disabled to dive. In even numbered years, (2004, '06, '08 etc.) $500 awarded to any disabled diver who wishes to pursue further their dive education. Candidates can be male or female.
