Abel graduated from UC Riverside in 2022 with a degree in Biochemistry. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at UCR, researching the impacts of hypoxia on the immune system. He has conducted multiple human research trials at high altitude. He led a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, one of the first of its kind for UCR, investigating the mechanisms of altitude-induced inflammation. He plans to visit Peru to continue his research with residents of the Andean Altiplano to investigate the impact of chronic hypoxia on the immune system.
