Graduate Marine Conservation Scholarship, Sponsored by Women Divers Hall of Fame

Baylie Fadool

Baylie is a Master’s student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying the population genetics of nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum) in The Bahamas. She works in collaboration with the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation (BBFSF), where she was the previous Media Manager and Outreach Coordinator. Research on nurse sharks has become increasingly important since they were recently listed by the IUCN as ‘vulnerable.’ Baylie is extremely grateful for receiving the Graduate Marine Conservation Scholarship, as it will help contribute to a better understanding of nurse shark population diversity and connectivity in The Bahamas, which will have direct conservation and management outcomes for this species. In addition to research, Baylie is extremely dedicated to education and outreach and is excited to share this project and its results with the people of Nebraska and beyond.
