Julimar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Coastal Marine Biology and a Master’s in Biology with a specialization in Environmental Sciences and Ecology. Throughout her academic career, she dedicated much of her time to volunteering in the conservation and rehabilitation of endangered marine species, such as manatees and sea turtles.
After graduating, Julimar began working as a scientific diver in coral reef restoration along Puerto Rico’s coasts. Her experience includes maintaining coral reef nurseries, outplanting corals, monitoring diseases like SCTLD, assessing bleaching events, and searching for invasive corals. All of her professional experience has been made possible through her Open Water and Advanced Diving certifications. With the grant, Julimar will expand her skills and experiences, enabling her to conduct more advanced scientific work in a responsible and safe manner.
