Loma is a marine biology and sustainable aquaculture student graduating in 2025 from Unity Environmental University. A Dean’s List scholar, Loma currently works at the Georgia Aquarium and is an active member of the Minorities and Shark Sciences Cohort. Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, Loma’s deep love for the ocean inspired her to pursue a career as a “scientific mermaid.” This grant will allow her to pursue her Open Water certification, equipping her with essential hands-on diving experience that will make her a more prepared and capable marine biologist. Loma plans to focus on whale shark conservation, tropical ecology, and coral restoration.
