Melanie is an undergraduate student at the University of Florida majoring in Marine Science with a minor in Statistics. She is passionate about applying advanced statistical techniques to fisheries conservation and aims to pursue a Ph.D. in Quantitative Fisheries. Melanie is a student researcher in the Behringer/Lamb Lab for Marine and Disease Ecology, where she studies marine ecosystems. This grant will support her participation in field research in the Galápagos, investigating the impacts of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events on fish ecology. Her work will contribute to her undergraduate thesis and a peer-reviewed publication. She aims to inspire minority women to pursue careers in science and higher education.
