Mieke Kassulke is an Australian maritime archaeologist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Haifa, happiest underwater, in the laboratory, or immersed in historical archives. Her research focuses on ancient Mediterranean harbours, where she develops innovative approaches to mapping and interpreting archaeological assemblages on the seabed. The WDHOF award supports her work with the Salina Bay Project in Malta, where she contributes to the underwater excavation of an ancient anchorage and the study of its ceramic artefacts. With field experience across the Mediterranean, Mieke is passionate about collaborative, method-driven research and about sharing maritime archaeology with audiences beyond academia.
