Nicole Bucchino Grinnan

Nicole is a Research Associate and underwater archaeologist with the Florida Public Archaeology Network, a program of the University of West Florida. She is currently working on a Ph.D. with the University of St. Andrews to explore how coastal communities in Florida value local cultural heritage sites on land and under water. Since 2020, Nicole has served as Membership Chair for the American Academy of Underwater Sciences(AAUS). Currently, she is also working with East Carolina University, the Task Force Dagger Special Operations Foundation, and the Defense POW/ MIA Accounting Agency to train military veteran citizen scientists in the recovery of remains of fallen United States service members engaged in the World War II Battle of Saipan. Nicole is passionate about advocating for the preservation of underwater heritage sites across the world; one of the most meaningful aspects of her career has been the opportunity to educate both divers and non-divers about that heritage.
