Sam Hickson is a second-year undergraduate student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo studying Marine Science. She’s involved in monitoring the Elephant Seal rookery in San Simeon and studying big-picture changes in the Pacific coast intertidal. In her career she aspires to research how ocean ecosystems respond to acidification and MCDR (Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal) techniques. The WDHOF grant for Scientific Diving training will allow her to participate in Cal Poly subtidal research, including the recovery of Sunflower sea stars. Sam loves to get outdoors to tidepool and look at cool birds, or stay indoors for hot chocolate and a board game.
