Sherly is a Ph.D. student at the University of Puerto Rico, dedicated to understanding the ecological and microbial dynamics of marine herbivores and seagrasses. Her research focuses on seagrass feeding preferences of Caribbean manatees in Puerto Rico. She aims to assess how the intestinal microbiome diversity associates to the diet of the manatees, especially in the face of invasive seagrass species such as Halophila stipulacea. In addition to her scientific work, she is passionate about marine wildlife conservation and is committed to fostering a supportive environment for biology students through education and mentoring.
