Stephanie is a graduate student in the Maritime Studies Program at East Carolina University. She is AAUS certified and a PADI Divemaster. Her thesis attempts to delineate geographic and cognitive boundaries of freedom of enslaved Africans within the tidal rice plantation waterscape of Brunswick County, North Carolina. Taking a community-centric approach, she established outreach and engagement as fundamental elements to her research designs. Stephanie is interested in remote sensing and photogrammetric methods, Black geographies, incident command resource advising, strategies for imminently threatened coastal communities, and management of submerged and previously inundated sites affected by dam operation, construction, and decommissioning.
