Tamara Thomsen opened Diversions Scuba, Wisconsin’s first technical dive shop in 1994, became the state’s first technical diving instructor, and she continues to teach a full range of mixed gas, rebreathers, and cave diving courses. Since 2004 Thomsen has worked as a Maritime Archaeologist for the State of Wisconsin’s maritime preservation and archaeology program. She is the state spokesperson for maritime heritage, disseminating information about the importance of our submerged cultural resources. Using underwater still and video photography to document, and a corps of volunteers to survey deep water shipwreck sites, Thomsen’s work has resulted in thirty-two Great Lakes shipwrecks being added to the National Register of Historic Places.
