Susan L. Williams Memorial Fellowships in Seagrass Rehabilitation, Sponsored by family & friends of WDHOF Member Susan L. Williams

Gema Hernan

Gema is a postdoctoral scholar at the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (Spain). She is interested in understanding the processes and mechanisms that regulate the structure and function of coastal systems, with emphasis on how human activities transform them locally, regionally, and globally. During her Ph.D. research in Marine Ecology, she studied the effects of environmental changes(ocean acidification, warming, eutrophication) in seagrasses and their trophic interactions. She has worked in seagrass systems in the Mediterranean, the Pacific, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, she is studying new methodologies to improve the success and resilience of seagrass restoration activities.
